The word Wikipedia is a combination of wiki and (1)_______________. A wiki is a piece of software that allows multiple writers to edit a Web page. The word comes from the Hawaiian word wiki, meaning (2)"_______________". 

Wikipedia was formally launched on 15 January 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger. The original computer (3)_______________ were in San Diego in the United States. The oldest article at the site is the article UuU, created on 16 January 2001. One month earlier, Wales had made a test edit with the text (4)"_______________" By mid-February 2001 there were more than 1,000 articles which rose to 10,000 articles by mid-September. At the beginning of 2011 there were 3,521,809 articles in English and 22,785,152 (5)_______________ in total. There are many non-English Wikipedia sites including versions in Catalan, Chinese, Dutch, Esperanto, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Polish, (6)_______________, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. Wikipedia is written collaboratively by volunteers. Anyone with Internet access can write and make changes to Wikipedia articles. Users can contribute anonymously, under a (7)_______________, or with their real identity. The site has 1,766 administrators. They are Wikipedia editors with access to restricted features. They can protect, move, delete and restore pages, and block other (8)_______________. Although the site has received criticism over the years for being unreliable, it is extremely popular.
